Laozi

Laozi was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer. His name directly translates to Master Lao, or Old master in Chinese. Even despite the fact that Laozi is a very famous historical figure, very little information about his childhood and younger years. Most of the information that we can draw about his childhood is from a biography called Shiji, which stated that he lived in a village in the district of Hu in the state of Chu. His surname was Li, and his first name was Er. He was appointed a shi at the royal court in the Zhou dynasty. The Shi were scholars that specialized in things such as astrology and the handling of sacred books.

When Laozi realised that Zhou dynasty was declining so he simply decided to leave to the west. When he was leaving through the Xiangu pass, which was the entrance to Qin, Yinxi the guardian of the pass wanted Laozi to write him a book. The book was a record of his wisdom and Yinxi insisted that for the good of country that he leave something behind. So Laozi wrote a book, in two sections each of them containing 5,000 characters. Then he left, and the very little is known after that. The text that he wrote was called Tao Te Ching.

This famous text called Tao Te Ching (in Chinese is called Daodejing). This book describes the ideal of all existence. It describes the Dao (or Tao) as the source and ideal of all existence: it is unseen, but not transcendent, immensely powerful yet supremely humble, being the root of all things. People have desires and free will (and thus are able to alter their own nature). Many act “unnaturally”, upsetting the natural balance of the Dao. The Daodejing intends to lead students to a “return” to their natural state, in harmony with Dao. Both language and conventional wisdom are assessed in this piece of text. This text was so influential on the people that the people a name for this spiritual believing. Taoism.

George Washington

George Washington was born on February the 22nd, 1732. In Bridges Creek in America. He is very well known for being an aspiring figure, and of course being the first president of the United States of America. He was also known for being one of the Founding Fathers, the men that kick started America’s political system.

George was born into a family of wealthy planters in Colonial Virginia who owned tobacco plantations and slaves, all of which he inherited. He was home schooled until he was 16, when he left to help map the English colony of Virginia. In his youth, he joined the army, becoming a senior officer in the early stages of the French Indian War. At first, he was fighting for the Britain, helping Britain win the war against the French and the Indians. However, he strongly opposed the tax burdens that England was setting on America. In 1775, the Continental Congress at the time made him commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American War. In command Washington was able to drive the British out of Boston in 1776 but was defeated, and barely avoided capture when he lost New York City. He won various more battles, helping the American forces drive the British out. This earned him a very trustworthy position among the American people. After victory over Britain in 1783, devised to form a new form, of federal government. Since Washington was widely admired for his leadership skills, he became the President in 1789. He was almost unamiously elected, having no one oppose him for the position.

Alexander Hamilton, who was a very important figure, writing more most of the U.S. constitution began helping Washington develop more programs. These programs for Washington include, satisfying their debts, establishing a permanent seat of government, implementing an effective tax system and creating a national bank. Washington made various important decisions in his time as president, including staying neutral in the French Revolution, suppressing the Whiskey Rebellion, while still maintaining the trust of the American people.

One of his most famous quotes was “First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen” and “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter”.

On September 14th, 1799 George Washington died.

CES Convention

The CES convention is a technology convention held every year at Las Vegas. CES usually showcases new technology that is set to release in the future. It is really a place for inventors and companies to show off their latest technology. All prototypes are usually showcased at the convention.

Some highlights shown at CES this year include, the new Acer Predator. The Acer Predator is the new top of the line gaming laptop. The laptop is huge, and the reason for that is because it runs some of the most complex graphic cards. It is like you stuffed a whole gaming PC a laptop.

Another cool thing that was showcased this year is called Project Valerie. Project Valerie is a project developed by Razor and the project is a gaming laptop that has 3 screens. The other two screens are on both sides of the main screen. This claims to give the laptop a more ‘perceptive view’.

Another invention that I think is worth mentioning is the Panasonic Window. From the outside, the window would just look like an ordinary window, but from the inside it can actually display images on the window. For example, at a sporting match you could look up a player’s info while the game is still going.

Some small inventions were also thrown into the mix this year at CES. A suitcase that followed where you walked was one and another was the dual screen smartphone made by High Sense. One side was the standard HD screen but the other side instead of using LEDs, they used eInk. eInk technology is the technology that powers the kindle wallpapers. They use up to almost no power and are much more comfortable for the eyes. Because one screen of the phone takes virtually no power, if your phone battery dies you can still show important traditional such as showing a passport.

The Silent Zone

Hai Guys,

While I am writing this post I am sitting in the silent area of the local library. The sign at the front of this section says “Please turn off all phones and refrain from talking”. It even says the same messages on all of the desks. There is only 3 other people in the room besides me and my sister. I feel like that if you make a single sound in this place you’ll die. I’m even scared that one of the people will turn around and start glaring at me because I type too loud or something. I’m going to try and watch Youtube in the corner (with headphones on, of course) and see if it goes well. It should. This is by far the most scariest part of the library..

Virtual Reality Headsets

Hai Guys,

So, my dad is a kind of a wholesaler. Basically sells random tech stuff. Anyway, he recently brought some VR headsets home for me and my sister to look at. It’s not like the good VR headsets like the HTC or Hive, with their weird little hand controllers. Though, that stuff is more for gaming. The one my dad brought home were surprisingly easy to set up. You literally just stick a phone in front of the glasses, go onto a application that enables VR capabilities.  But there quite a few flaws as well. Firstly, if your phone has cracks then you can really see the cracks in the VR headset. So yeh, VR headsets. Not as good as I expected. Well, we’ll just have to look towards the Mircrosoft HoloLens!
