George Washington was born on February the 22nd, 1732. In Bridges Creek in America. He is very well known for being an aspiring figure, and of course being the first president of the United States of America. He was also known for being one of the Founding Fathers, the men that kick started America’s political system.
George was born into a family of wealthy planters in Colonial Virginia who owned tobacco plantations and slaves, all of which he inherited. He was home schooled until he was 16, when he left to help map the English colony of Virginia. In his youth, he joined the army, becoming a senior officer in the early stages of the French Indian War. At first, he was fighting for the Britain, helping Britain win the war against the French and the Indians. However, he strongly opposed the tax burdens that England was setting on America. In 1775, the Continental Congress at the time made him commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American War. In command Washington was able to drive the British out of Boston in 1776 but was defeated, and barely avoided capture when he lost New York City. He won various more battles, helping the American forces drive the British out. This earned him a very trustworthy position among the American people. After victory over Britain in 1783, devised to form a new form, of federal government. Since Washington was widely admired for his leadership skills, he became the President in 1789. He was almost unamiously elected, having no one oppose him for the position.
Alexander Hamilton, who was a very important figure, writing more most of the U.S. constitution began helping Washington develop more programs. These programs for Washington include, satisfying their debts, establishing a permanent seat of government, implementing an effective tax system and creating a national bank. Washington made various important decisions in his time as president, including staying neutral in the French Revolution, suppressing the Whiskey Rebellion, while still maintaining the trust of the American people.
One of his most famous quotes was “First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen” and “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter”.
On September 14th, 1799 George Washington died.
